Who’s in the photo
This photograph sat atop this blog in its previous incarnation. Now the blog has a new look, there’s no room for it in that position. But it’s such a great photo I can’t not include it.
I picked it for two reasons – one, it’s got loads of relatives in it and two, I could easily make the image the right size (albeit at the expense of the poor folk at the back, who have had their heads chopped off!).
I’ll introduce you to all of them later, but I’ll just say it’s a June day in 1924. The place is round the back of the Masonic Hall in Cadzow Street. The bride is Effie Benson and her groom Tom Wilson. And there, on her mother’s knee (front row, third from the right) is my mother, all of two months old. The old chap with the big mouser and his customary glower (far right of the second front row) is her great-grandfather.
